I am a self taught contemporary artist living in St Just Cornwall. My desire to create has been prevalent since childhood and I have been steadily developing my own painting style since studying art at college 25 years ago.
INSPIRATION
My inspiration is firmly embedded in the Cornish Coast and all that it encompasses. My paintings do not offer a visual reality, but instead try to portray my experience of the landscape and capture the essence of place in a moment in time.
FREEDOM OF CHOICE
I find that abstract painting offers me freedom of choice and allows me to experiment with composition, materials and expression. I am continually excited by the processes of layering and mark making from which my pieces evolve.
CREATING ENERGY THROUGH TEXTURES
I primarily use acrylics, ink and charcoal combined with a variety of texturisers to create interesting surfaces and add energy to the pieces. Works range from small paper pieces to large scale 1mx1m paintings on canvas or wood.
